use your legs and swing to get initial momentum. Alot of people say to start off slow and keep your legs still, but that's boring.. If you want to get them faster, try and swing in a circular motion and then split your legs in a v shape like you've been doing. Also, try not to tap so much, but instead speed up with each tap so that you won't tap as often.
